Why do we remember a story and forget products?

The answer is simple to me. We don’t connect with features or facts. We connect with meaning.

Our brains are built to respond to stories. Stories help us make sense of the world, activate emotions, shape memory, and build trust. Gives perspective and clarity.

Our biochemistry is also important. Oxytocin creates connection. Dopamine keeps us engaged. Even cortisol, when used carefully, can anchor a message. It’s the “bio-psychology” in marketing.

Dove’s “Real Beauty” campaign talks soap through real stories, highlighting self-image, vulnerability, and identity. It sparks conversations, and conversions. Moving deeper from being seen to being remembered.

We all have stories. Our job is to learn how to tell them well. This competition for attention includes emotional relevance. The power of resonance.
